I'm SO glad I came across this excellent forum. You are all so generous in advice and support. I hope one day I can support it in turn.
3yrs since I got interested in a brick oven I have been reading Rado's site and working on my family to get buy-in for a build! I can't afford it but have convinced myself any my wife that it will be an investment that will enhance our lives. I've never laid a brick or worked with cement but I'm keen to learn. I am restricted to the odd day at the odd weekend for building and a tiny garden (north Hampshire). Reading this awesome forum I've already learned that the type of oven should be chosen based on how it will be used - I hope to use it at least once per month, all year, for pizza, breads and the occasional roast meat. While I will likely regret the time/wood it takes to heat up a big vaulted barrel oven I think that's the type I'm dreaming of rather than a smaller/Pompei dome oven. Problem is, it's still just a dream and not a plan. I fear a £500 folly from poor planning and incompetent self-building.
I'm hoping this community of WFO enthusiasts can push me over the line with encouragement and advice, to make it happen.
Best wishes to you all Robin

I was like you always wanting, then I built a summerhouse and put a bar in it!!! My garden became an obsession..What next....Then I thought of this.. I am lucky I do work in the building trade but bricks aren't my thing.. I then heard that old brick is pretty good . So I search all the freebie sites and gathered up as much stuff as I could. Its saved me a fortune , recycled brick, pavers , blocks anything that will do. There are thousands of pics on the net too. Decide on a style and go for it..

ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/1975/ghetto-oven-building-on-budgetG'day see link above This is cracker of a little oven built on a budget . It wasn't built by an expert but it has that certain rustic charm. Tell everyone your building and you need materials and you'll be amazed what will turn up. All the he block for my stand and the sand/gravel mix was free. A bit of cement and some wood was all I brought. It allowed me to afford the firebrick. Even after building the oven im still "masonary impaired' but my ovens not fallen down 4 yrs now. Regards dave
