So im fancying building a tandoori oven. Some thing like this www.channel4.com/programmes/jamie-and-jimmys-friday-night-feast/videos/all/s2-ep1-build-your-own-tandoori-oventhough i have issuse's with the design 1 the base is sand, im thinking this should be a layer of sand then vermiculite, vermiculite for insulation then sand below this for balast. 2 the oven looks a night mare to clean, so im thining of cutting the bin just above the first layer of brick and sealing both ends with vermicrete. So my questions are Does this look like a good idea? has any one tryed this ? would i get enoug air through the oven with just one slot/ hole ? is vermicrete just 10 parts vermiculite to 1 part cement (ish) ? would i loose too much heat ou tof the cut lines or would this need a skirt to keep the heat in ? Thanks for any comments / advice Pesh

There's a much simpler build method using three plant pots and plain vermiculite illustrated on this youtube vid. Basically, large pot with extra holes drilled in base, smaller pot right way up placed on a ring encompassing the extra holes. Third pot with base cut off inverted over second leaving an internal lip to rest the skewers on. Fill the gap with vermiculite and fire it up with charcoal and the jobs a carrot.
