Dome and side walls of base now rendered, plan is to paint them next. Building up the sizes of the fires each day this week, aiming for pizzas on Father's Day ! Dome very sooty so far, despite kiln dried wood, just the dome drying out?

G'day A sooty oven is an indication of the moisture still trapped in the structure. It happens because the fires energy is spent on removing the moisture. It will start to clear from the top of the dome first and work its way down. Don't be suprised if it still has a residual amount of black right down low for a while. Taking those fires slow is a good thing to. Sometimes the times between heating is good as it allows the deap moisture to make its way to the surface so the next fire can remove it Regards dave

After a few delays, further progress. Done and side panels painted with cream masonry paint. 100cm vitreous enamel flue in place.

. Fired up for real for the first time this weekend. Used soft wood to start, then kiln dried hard wood. Reached 350C after an hour, which seemed reasonable as we've only had smaller fires before now. Spot on the dome started to clear.

First food prepared! Garlic bread, cooked in 2 minutes. It's all seeming worth while now! Now to make a door.
