One of the better builds for sure, I hope you're proud of her! :-)
What's the black counter top you've used? I do like the look of it.
Your last pictures show the oven needed some finishing touches, any more pictures to share?
40 dough balls made, sounds like a big party, have a good one.

Hi Simon thanks for the comments black granite from a supplier i use quite frequently so deal had to be done. Still not had time to put on Krend or tiles/lead work to chimney but soon as Firework season is over i will have a bit more time and hopefully finish her of completely. Have been practicing with oven but tonight will be the most i have tried to do, but a few beers and good company should work out ok i hope.

Lovely clean finish, love the surrounds and that you got permanent cover under which to do your 'prep'.

At last i have moved all equipment to new storage area and got my space back!! Another good weekend of pizza and baking
But a new door is required this morning! The original had been slowly deteriorating and a new metal one was being planned so will get templates done and metal work sorted.

Your build and the results look lovely. Can I ask - what did you use for mortar? Your mortar looks very different to the Homebrew that I am using.

Thanks for the compliments. I used ready mixed from kiln linings for the bulk of the build and home brew when i ran out. Did mean keeping joints very tight but happy with the results. I found the home brew very good to work with just make sure your bricks are wet/damp or it sets without getting a good grip.

hi, and though no doubt someone will be along to correct me shortly, I don’t recall the use of a fibreglass shell before. You seem to have got a pretty good finish too - well done, I know ‘free-form’ fibreglassing can be tricky. Chas.

Hi,
Any chance of some more info on the gel coat and vents please? Would love to reduce the heat up time of my monster oven as long as it's safe for the oven and will not cause any stress from trapped water etc.

Firstly i re rendered the dome as smooth as i could then coated with G4 primer then drilled in to insulation layer on top point and added a 15mm mushroom cowl fitting with enough pipe to get into insulation. I also added a blow off cap at the back low level as an extra precaution. First layer of fibre glass cloth and resin applied. Sanded down and filled with car epoxy filler (lots of it) when happy i applied a second layer of grp and resin as used for roofing sanded down again and applied coloured polyester gelcoat from east coast fibreglass supplies. Overall very pleased bwith it, I wish i had done it at the start and fibreglassed out to wall edges before fitting granite surrounds but not had any issues with water ingress or high temperatures/steam escaping from vents. Oven is 42" diameter and i can get to 500 c in less than 2 hours used to take ages before

Morning, finally got round to looking at this thread again having used two sacks of wood drying out my oven!
Thinking I will give your idea a go over the top of my current vermicrete, render and sandex finish but I have a couple of questions please!
The cowl vent - I think I have found one on screwfix for £6 but if it's on top of the oven do you cover it or just accept that any moisture that finds its way in there is negligible?
Turning to the fibreglass, what is the purpose of the car body filler? To keep costs down I was thinking primer, fibreglass Resin (1 or 2 coats), sanded, then gel coat - do you just paint that on?
I would be interested to hear what downunderdave thinks of this method generally. I haven't seen it before and don't want to wreck my oven but it does seem like a great idea. Have you still had no issues with cracking? Faster heat up times for my 36" internal oven would be better then pizza for breakfast! Cheers.
