Hi, did you use thermalite blocks for the thermal gap? does it work to keep the front arch bricks cooler?
am i right that those blocks must be exposed inside the arch or did you render of cover them inside?
you bridged the thermal gap at the start of the chimney is that ok? did it work out ok?
is the front arch and chimney normal muck of fire cement?

Hi there narcosi,
The thermal gap is indeed thermalite blocks cut to size. They are about 3 or 4cm wide. I can't remember if it had fire cement or not, but I would say it was probably fire cement. After 7 years of use it is in need of a skim, but there is no degradation of the break itself. I only bridged the thermal gap between the arches themselves and not the chimney. The front two arches are significantly cooler than the ones inside the oven. They do get hot but you can touch them, where as the internal temp is often over 300 degrees.
