Morning all. I went on a one day earth oven making course yesterday and am all fired up about building one at home. Can't wait to get cracking on it! Steven.

there seems to be loads of new clay ovens being built! Good luck. Are you keeping it plain and simple or decorating it? ...... You don't have to go as mad as mine!

I'm planning something pretty straightforward along the lines of the one we finished off on the course (pictured below). The brick & flint base is perfect for the vernacular style of my area, so I intend to do something similar, then a relatively simple cob oven on top.

Hi Steven,
that's a particularly lovely oven and base to use as a model... was the course with Kate Edwards by any chance? She came here when I was interested in building a cob roundhouse.

The course I did was with Jessica Perry, www.jessicaperry.co.uk/section699471.html The first 2 layers of this oven had been built on courses run last year. The day we were there, we added the final layer to it, after building a sand dome first on an adjacent table. There was a second base alongside with an oven on it, that was around 5 years old I believe in which we cooked pizza to finish the day :-)
