After spending many hours (or days according to the wife!) trawling through the forum, i've finally decided to come out and say hi and share my build.
First of all, many thanks for everyone that's contributed to this forum, it been a terrific source of information.
As you can see from the photos (hopefully uploaded ok), i eventually opted for a non-conventional vault/barrel oven which has a central entrance. I was a bit limited on available depth so decided to utilise available width. To give an idea of scale, my hearth measures 84x57 cm. I've tried to match the dimensions of some of the modular ovens, so hopefully should be ok. I'll update this view when i start using it.
My next step is to finish the thermal break between the arch and the dome then fashion/install a chimney. This is where i am after some advice/suggestions
Following some of the previous threads on the thermal break, i was going to use some thin pieces (~3cm) of thermal insulation blocks (i have some left over) and homebrew to fix/seal in place.
As far as the chimney, i was again going to use some cut thermal blocks and homebrew mix to form a base plate over the flue (24x10cm) then attach one of the rectangular clay flue liners. Is there a optimum chimney height and can the thermal blocks take the heat ?
Once that is sorted, next is the question of insulation, i gather the recommended is 50mm blanket, 100mm Vermicrete and 40mm render. The is achievable over top, front and back but i'm a bit pushed for space on the sides. Is there a way of reducing the overall thickness of the insulation on the side of my oven - using cal sil boards then render ? If this is not an option, i could extend my base one side but not the other - BBQ in the way!
Looking forward to any comments, suggestions, critic and the odd sharp intake of breath.
Thanks
