Ahoy! Does anyone have any experience of using compressed sawdust heatlogs i.e: www.woofwoodfuel.co.uk/pizza-oven-fuel.phpI see they're not cheap, but are they really smokeless? I read that they have a moisture content of only 5% I quite like the idea of having something in the shed that I can chuck in my (as yet unfinished) oven without any forward planning regards to seasoned and/or pre heated wood. That, and our next door neighbour has young children, which means washing on the line 24/7. ? Cheers, Al

My friend used them on his log burner in the snow as he had run out of logs and was awaiting a delivery and he was amazed at the heat output BUT they are pricey. I don't know if they are cheaper in france, I could look for you .

Apart from these Heat Logs from woofwoodfuel I am not aware of any Heat Logs in the UK that come with any food use certification. The patented 'O Sole Mio ones from woofwoodfuel have chemical and bacteriological certification, so you can use them safely with food. Other Heat Logs in the UK are manufactured from recycled timber, and are not recommended for cooking due to potential contamination.
These heat logs are being used at a lot of commercial pizzerias instead of logs now due to their convenience and concerns over health and safety.
The youtube video on the site shows how to use them correctly to gain ideal cooking conditions.
Heat logs are perfect for wood burning stoves, but not recommended for use with food.
