Hello to all forum members. I am absorbing all your wisdom as I type.
Thanks for all your help so far.
Could someone guide me as to how to include a fire blanket layer between my inner and outer skins of clay bricks (I presume pre-war wire cut bricks as suitable) without compressing the blanket.
Thanks in advance,
James

Hi James, welcome. If we're to take it you're going for a dome, the building of the second skin won't compress fire blanket - assuming the first dome didn't collapse, the second one won't... you can easily maintain a cavity between the skins. Domes are very stable. Fire blanket (if you mean the sort of thing kept in a kitchen for throwing over a pan fire) isn't all that insulative though. If you're going to the trouble of building a second skin, build it to leave a cavity of at least two inches and pour vermiculite into the cavity as you go.
I'd say the same goes for a barrel vault too: arches are stable.
Keep us posted!
