Hello everyone, I am John from glasgow and currently gathering all the materials form my big build.. I am just finishing a Garden fireplace at the momment and found a stockist of refractory supplies and allsorts of stuff. I am in the Glasgow area and have had no problem getting supplies and materials I got a freebie from them yesterday Rockset.. good to 1600'c. I was thinking of using it on my barrel vault dome... Thought I would through it out there before I start...cheers Guys.http://www.dupreminerals.com/en/products/refractory/mortars/rockset

Welcome, from another vault builder.
Had a brief look at the Rockset. It looks great. Assuming someone else is paying that is.
I think most people here use homebrew as a way to keep cost down. It has proven heat proof abilities, but I'm not sure it counts as a genuine refractory.
If it were me, i'd use the rockset for the innermost parts of the oven, then switch to homebrew when the bucket ran out.

Your right there.. £30 QUID A TUB...I was in buying 25kg bag of fireclay @ 11.00 inc vat, when they asked me what is it for as they have seen me in a few times.. Before I know it there hitting me with stuff to try..Good stuff too.Anyway there's a growing market for this stuff among ordinary folk now and they were looking at getting an oven builders pack put together for sale to the ordinary Joe. I did use this Rockset on my fireplace opening, It is great stuff the trick is to spread it thin and when it drys, naturally or with heat it hardens to incredible strength. I only used a little and got 30 small bricks in place.. So I am impressed short shelf life though!! Anyway any Glasgow builders on this I have the details of where to go
