My oven uses heater blocks laid tightly over a vermiculite sheet, all contained in a metal tray, no expansion problems to date and any gaps caused by shrinkage will fill with ash.

Thanks for the response oblertone. I have another question for you, How long can I safely leave my sand inside the dome once I have cut the door. Can I leave it overnight with a tarp over? Downunderdave said that I should remove it straight away to avoid cracking (that make's sense) but will it dry out out that much under a tarp on a cold East Anglian night? I removed the sand too quickly last time and the dome collapsed......don't want it to happen again! Regards Stuarts  |
