Hello everyone, found your site after looking for advice on how to reinstall/rebuild a secondhand pizza oven. We have wanted to build one in the garden for years but haven't got around to it, then stumbled across this one which had been removed from a take-away, until we went to pick it up we had no idea just how big & heavy it was! So far we've only built the support base.......... Using dense concrete blocks on 3' footings & 16mm rebar, going to fill the hollows with ballast mix and build a former to take a 2" poured concrete slab over 6mm rebar grid. After this we hope to insulate to about 5" with lots of wine bottles, vermiculite, clay balls & a Portland cement mix........ Can anyone tell us if this is a good (& more affordable) way forward, thought it was a bargain but costs have gone crazy. Thanks for reading and any advice will be much appreciated

Hi, I'm new on here too - so possibly not much help!
We made a square to put our oven on (not built yet). We have filled it with hardcore, old bricks and lots of wine bottles! We kept reading that glass was a good insulator. On the top, we have put a granite top which extends either sides for bar stools. Then centrally we put a round concrete base, and we are going to put on top of that Ceramic fibre blanket, board, and then our fire bricks - which we got out of storage heaters, so I hope this will be enough insulation.
Not sure we have done it correctly, but reading around there is so much information that it becomes confusing, and everyone has their own way, but it's our 1st attempt, so time will tell.
Welcome to the site, and I am sure there will be lots of people around soon to give you better help than I can.

That's a beast, I just hope you've got access to lots of wood. Base insulation is one thing you don't want to get wrong and 'more is best' works well. Have you given any thought to insulating over the oven once installed, as this will determine how big your plinth needs to be ?
