Hi everyone. Looks like a very informative site so thought I'd come say hello. Looking to build a temporary pizza oven in the next couple of weeks so thought I'd better gen up in it :-) apologies if I ask stupid questions...my brain works in strange ways sometimes :-)

Mine does, too. But I just go with it. Why a temporary one, Virgil? Are you planning on going off pizza!!?

A 'temporary' oven indicates short term use, if that's the plan then don't do anything too permanent, there are documented builds on forno-bravo using dry bricks that worked perfectly well and were dismantled after use. I took a different approach and built a traditional Pompeii dome, but on wheels so I could use it at its temporary home, before moving it back to my garden.

Sorry for delayed reply - just moved house so been busy.
Needs to be a temporary structure as its a rental property, so i may stay here a year, might be longer, but at the end of the day i might have to take it down and clear the base it was built on. Sad, but true!
So ire floor I'm happy to spend on fire bricks as they can be reused if i have to move. Stand will be thermalise blocks, so cheap as chips built onto a wooden decking to protect the patio area...
Dome...dont really want to build a fire brick dome as its not really going to be movable or easy to reuse the bricks if dismantled.
I see people use vermiculite concrete for insulation - is there not a way to just make the dome from vermiculite cast over a mould and then rendered smooth and painted??
would it have too little insulation properties and let all the heat out? I'm not worried about strength, as after all, it's a dome so pretty much self supporting and nothing will be put on top of it.
really only looking to cook pizza but maybe bread if it worked out for that...but bread would be a bonus not a requirement...
thoughts??
thanks, Virgil
