Hi all, This is where I got today - finally the roof is on and the twin wall flue is fitted. I just need to apply the DPC cream and then render. However, I can now cook, so I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to resist the urge to use the oven instead of finishing the build. Anyone got a couple of large cans of willpower they can send my way? Attachments:

Twobecks
I touch my forelocks to you Sir.....What a brilliant looking oven. The urge to use the oven before the housing or final render is on is indeed tempting. The reality is most people have used their oven well before this stage.
I always say that the sooner you can start your curing fires the better.....The challenge ....and temptation is to wait until you have built enough small curing fires in your oven before putting too much heat into the oven.
I always recommend 2 weeks of several fires per day for 2 weeks gradually building up the intensity of the firings along this process. I know people can't wait and sometimes jump the gun and go full hog after just a few days. Sometimes cracks appear.....and sometimes not.
Your oven is a modular oven so, just follow your suppliers guidelines on drying/curing. It will be a lot shorter time than a self build.

Hi Twobecks - I have to say that is a stunning build - you must be really pleased. I love the cowl as well. My build is the same Veneto build in Shropshire and I really had to shop around finding a suitable sized cowl but to be fair I did want a veryt basic simple loook to the finish.
In regards firing, I did about 10 small fires over a week before firing the oven for a full 5 hour cook. I did have very small hairline cracks appear across the k-rend which eminated from the base of the flue but that was it and all easily repairable.
I am sure you will love it as soon as you start though. James

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to be very reserved and fire up slowly - I've spent so long getting to this stage, I don't want to undo all of the work put in for the sake of being impatient for a week. The flue and cowl were made by a company called Dinak. Really good product, but pricey. I got them from here: www.directflues.co.uk/With regards to getting the potjie in there - no chance, it's a size 8, 18 litre unit!! James - how do you find the heat retention in the Veneto?

Final render coat done with plaster drip bead. Just a coat of PVA undercoat, then it'll be ready to paint for real!! Hopefully firing it up this weekend for some pizza then a few loaves of bread. Attachments:

Hi all, Just a quick progress report... Oven is painted, log store has a door, and I fitted some herbs! ;-) Architrave to be fitted around the door, then I'll add some door furniture to finish off. Terry, as requested I'll post a pic of my first pizza too. Cheers all! Steve
