Currently planning my first oven - thinking of using a wooden base construction but one bit of information I cant find is how high from the floor to build the base. May be better thought of as height from ground to oven floor. Any Advise on this be appreciated.

Once built you can't change it, although it's easier to build a step than it is to dig a hole.

I agree with Dave. My hearth is at 0.9m, which works well for standing operation if you dip your head slightly. If you want a low oven, 0.6m would be good if you are happy to crouch. I've found there's an unergonomic height around 0.7-0.8m where you'd need to stoop awkwardly (For a 1.8m/6ft person). Also remember that your oven floor is probably going to be thick ( structure+insulation+hearth = 0.2m maybe?), so factor that into your plinth height.
