They look very similar to the German Kachelofen, designed for space heating - brilliant looking things and very clever; I think some of them had hot air ducts as well to heat other rooms. No idea about convertiblity to a pizza oven, but it sounds like a big leap. Shame to get rid of all of them tho'! Watch out for any asbestos insulation or seals if you dismantle them. I don't know if they contain it, but it must be a possibility.

I think they're the same as Kachelofen, but we have 3 of them in one flat haha. I thought about keeping one just because, but I'd love to turn it into something else useful. I think a wood-fired oven would be a great addition to an old kitchen Yea I was thinking about asbestos, but to be honest, I don't know how to be careful with it other than wearing a mask and trying not to breathe so much haha.

Have a search for "Kachelofen asbest" on google.de - lots of hits and might give you a clue as to high risk areas of the appliance. Make sure your mask is P3 rated.
