Hello, I would like to know if anyone can tell me the difference in what the old red clay bricks look like inside compared to other bricks. I am not wanting to buy firebricks and i am sure that i do have the old clay bricks. I am wanting to make an outdoor fireplace.
Thanks so much, Lola

Hi Lola, I think older bricks tend to have small 'frogs' (indentations) on one side, but unless you know the source ie age of the building they came from, I don't think its easy to categorically say what they are. Terry's a bricklayer so will be able to give a better answer. You might consider buying just a few standard firebricks of some of the the half thickness bricks to line the fireplace.
