Evening all, since my first thread I've come across this design. Has anyone tried anything like this? I need a portable WFO for my campervan, and the ones in my first post are just too big to be viable. I was thinking of using this type of idea, and making a sheet steel box that could be taken apart, to encase it when in use. Would this work well enough without being insulated? Also, would it hinder efficiency with the full front being open? I don't really mind the look of it, as it will add to the look of 'dodgy hipster pop-up street food' haha. I may pick up some cheap pavers tomorrow and give it a whirl. Scott

Well I tried this design last night using cheap paving blocks. It worked really well. The only issue is the base cools too quickly, so I had to move the embers after each couple of pizzas were done.
It worked well enough as a proof of concept though, and the pizzas cooked in less than 2 mins each.
I can't possibly take this many blocks with me though, as it weighs about 100kg.
I made mine slightly lower inside than this one, it makes me wonder if a vault or a dome is necessary??

There are many portable pizza ovens coming on the market, most are insulated steel and significantly lighter than carrying a set of blocks. Try googling Uuni oven and you'll see what I mean.

My plan is to make a steel one, insulated with vermiculite. I'll make each of the sections (walls, roof, base) as a steel box, then fill with loose vermiculite. Hopefully having a 40mm brick slab, with 50mm of insulation below should hold heat quite well. Those uuni ones look a bit naff, they only have an air gap, no insulation. I'll post pics when I'm done
