Hi guys, awesome site and very inspirational! I have garnered much info from here so thanks to all contributors. I have a few questions before I order my materials and make a start on the dome (the slab was completed many many moons ago...) 1m oven will require approx 250 fire bricks it seems (230x114x64) I'm going for a home brew mix so how much clay do I need to order (the £200 minimum order at kilnlinings is a bit of a headache). I will try to cut some angles but I can't get my head around the angle doc. that's available over at fornobravo... How much ceramic blanket do I need? Would 7metres of this suffice? Im going for a 1m2 of this to go on top of the concrete slab and underneath the bricks. No vermicrete layer-do you think this will do? Sharp sand or builders red sand? There seems to be some conflict in my mind about this. Many thanks for any advice on the above. Quick replies appreciated as my finger is hovering above the purchase button, now I've finally pulled it out from wherever it's been hiding...

Hi, if you still need advice about materials have a look at my build thread. It has details of quantities for bricks, blanket etc for my 36 inch dome. Kiln linings very good. My advice would be to get your bricks through here, along with your fire clay and blanket thinking ahead to the insulation. I didnt and then couldnt order again because of the minimum order thing. Ended up ordering through Fireplug which was good but kiln linings would have got me more blanket for my money.
Also, dont be afraid to over order. Bricks and fireclay etc have good resale value on ebay when it comes to leftovers. There are lots of crazy oven builders like us in the uk!!!

I'm sort of jumping here on this thread because my issue is somewhat related and I don't want to litter. I'm currently in the middle of my Home renovations Aberdeen and I thought of getting myself an oven like that. Do you think I could fit such a kiln inside of my home, or is it outside only? How much of the material should I buy to fit it inside a regular kitchen, which is currently renovated? Or do I have to buy that much of it that it will only fit outside? Cheers!

That's a tricky question to answer. Nice idea having it indoors if you have the room. I suspect though you would need some professional advice on it and also check local planning laws, building regs etc.

there is no reason you can't have a WFO inside so long as you follow the appropriate regs and have it properly vented to the outside.
