After much planning and research I've finally gone and done it. Went for a Linea Vz barrel oven (the Capri version) thanks to E Bay and Terracotta Warehouse in Manchester. Great out of season deal and many thanks to them for safe and efficient delivery. Will post some pictures of the construction process when I figure out how to do multiple posts but thought I'd show off where I'm up to after a somewhat rain interupted Easter break. Basic construction is 7Nm block work on 200mm concrete raft with old style 3 x 2 flags sat on top of reinforced concrete lintels. Then 100mm layer of vermicrete under oven base topped off with 25mm calcium silicate blanket and 100mm vermicrete and lime render topping. Used some spare hardibacker concrete flooring board to get the vermicrete to hold in position and the nice straight sides. Now on my fifth firing. Started with small fire at 100 deg C then increased by 50 deg C per day to get up to 300 deg C yesterday. Small crack in the render around the flue which is the least protected area. Plan to hit 400 deg C by this weekend and then get the first pizza in. Local Cash and Carry over the road from work sells all the ingredients to the local take away trade so found a nice selection of pizza flours, canned tomato topping and grated cheese all ready. Next stage is a coat of paint (wet render still visible) and a timber gazebo to sit over the whole area ready for those rainy summer days. Attachments:

wowsers, welcome aboard. You have been a busy chap Love all the prep area and still enough room for the bbq. cant wait to see it in the making, but sounds like you are more patient and doing all the right things with the curing fires. Patience here is key, but Pizza but the weekend sounds perfect ;D

Oven fired successfully last Saturday. First two attempts were written off (well I ate them actually!!) but this is third attempt. Only a margherita for the picky teenager (no basil thanks!) but he did say it was the best he'd ever tasted and promptly invited his mates round for seconds. Did a Garlic Bread Pomodoro after and that was superb ( had to warm some up for breakfast next day as I was stuffed). Attachments:

It's frustrating me too. A lot of my limewash on the blockwork has been washed away! It's made up my mind to build a gazebo over the top now so wood is on order for next weeks Bank Holiday and I'll get the whole lot under cover for year round use.
;D

Ok nearly done now. Roof is over the oven and I'm just waiting for delivery of grey felt shingles to cover the roof and my chimney rain cap then it'll all be as snug as a bug in a rug!! All I want now is a decent spell of sunny weather to get some pizza cooking practice in. Attachments:

Steve
It's nice to have a good modular oven to work with. It's another thing to turn it into an outdoor cooking station. I love the workmanship and all the hard work you have done to create a work of art.......no bull sh*t or patronising......you've done a great job.....I love it.

Job done. Put the final coat of paint on the render this morning and it's all completed. What do you know but then SWMBO moves in with the ironing board cos it's nice and shaded. Taking the outdoor kitchen concept to another level that is!! Ready for the Pizza Jubilee party next Sunday now so lets all hope and pray the weather is as good as it has been this weekend. Hi Steve - I've been looking at your photos and this is exactly what I'd like to create. So, you're now almost a year in - has this model lived up to your expectations? Would you have done anything differently? Much obliged for any guidance you can give. Mandi
