I envisage the walls of my structure to look like these of Victors and also a similar size. woodovenukforum.forumup.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1079&mforum=woodovenukforumAre the walls in his design made of concrete or celcon? I've bought some celcon ones which are 150mm. If I use them for the walls will they be strong enough to cast a slab (4-5"?) & to take the weight of a 36" pompeii? ...or do I definitely need concrete ones? Pete

.....panic over! Although they are a bit brittle they seem to have a lot of strength in them.
I've dry laid (no cement) them to see what it will look like & it's looking good - if I do say so myself. It's too dark now but I might take a photo sometime & add it to my progress it the 2012 Pompeii build section.

Pete Celcon blocks have more "downward pressure" strength than concrete blocks. When a new house build is constructed, the roof structure....and the tiles are always put on the thermolite......or celcon blocks, via a wall plate.(a 4" x 2" timber). You can cast a slab on top of them or......lay re-enforced concrete lintels. I laid a concrete slab on top of celcon blocks.... woodovenukforum.forumup.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=851&mforum=woodovenukforum ....please use this forum.....AND the old forum as the more you can see from other builds......the more you can choose your own direction. Keep us informed of your progress (please)...... Terry

Thank. I got a bit paranoid when the chap in the builders merchants said how easily the chip. I'm happy now though.
