So having been lurking on here for years i have finally built an oven its 90 cm in diameter I was going to use a vermiculite /cement base and then fire bricks but i have been offered some large black bath tiles free would this work instead of fire bricks or is this penny pinching Kind regards Nick

Honestly, I've no idea if tiles would survive in a WFO. Why not try one in an open fire and see what happens, if it cracks then save them for the exterior decor.

The idea behind a WFO is to create a significant mass with with to "load" heat, this heat is then released over time and that allows you to cook. With bath tiles you are not going to have the mass to achieve this - if they even stand up to the temps that your oven will get to.

Hello Nick, & welcome to the forum. Can you post a picture of the tiles? But to me not sounding like a great idea. You need as much Insulation as you can, otherwise the oven will act like a radiator. I think that the tiles would not hold heat in. How are you going to move the oven to its intended location?
Ps, where abouts are you. Im ex39
