Hi, I'm thinking of making a rectangular vault oven, but need a bit of help ! It will be constructed using both clay blocks and storage heater bricks, with an overall insulated "cover". Is it best to use the clay blocks as the walls, with the storage heater bricks as the "roof", or the other way round ? Also, the maximum length will be approx 1mtr. What size height, width and door opening size would you recommend ? Many thanks ! Read more: ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/3080/rectangular-vault#ixzz5DA5TA9Hn

The 63% rule still applies despite the shape of your oven; i.e. the height of the oven door should be 63% of the height of your oven roof (Max), as to the door width, work on about 50% of the oven width, but might need to increase that if your door is at the 'thin' end of the oven. It need to be wide enough for you to work the oven with a peel, or accommodate your widest baking tray.
