Hello from the south east coast, I’ve been keen for quite awhile to build a wood fired oven. i have taken on a few projects here and there and feel that this is the time to take this one on. Its been quite interesting researching on the dome vs barrel debate: I’ve decided to go for the barrel design with extra insulation (we are in Blighty after all). The Australian chap Rolando Hand (traditional wood fired ovens) seems to have cracked a number of issues with the MTo design re lateral bracing / reinforcing etc. I got his CD in the post from AUS’ the other day and have been poring over the photo montage and it seems all to be in order. I’m of the opinion that this is a project that if build well ought to last a genuine lifetime and therefore want to do this right. I will be building this into the wall of a terraced garden so the first challenge will be the excavation; happy days after work with a mattock / shovel and a fist full of blisters I would imagine😂 I will imagine that the cost excluding a skip for the rubble / soil removal will be about 2 grand ( inc new 42%firebricks / blocks / ballast / insulation etc) I work for a living so must be reasonable and SWMBO would get grumpy if it exceeds that. Does the forum have discount code with Mr T Perkins / advice on where to source firebricks in SE 🇬🇧 (May be looking for a hernia belt by the end of this, but cooking heavenly pizza/ making bread / dried fruit etc etc)
Thanks in advance for any advice offered😊

Hi Rusty, See if this link works to the page with all the discounts available. ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/board/28 I couldn't possibly comment how much my build has cost me so far as my better half would lynch me if she knew how much it is costing.. It will all be worth it though. Good luck and keep plodding on Gary
