Yet another question for my current build .I have found a new length of clay drainage pipe with 170mm collar reducing to 120mm wide pipe and a 1000mm long , I was thinking of using this for chimney on a barrel oven build...do you think this will be large enough for the oven? and has anyone tried this? Thanks again

good morning, how big is your barrel oven going to be, I think you need to get the right diameter to oven size which is a rough marker to how much fuel you would burning at once, and such how much exhaust gas you need to vent. The Forno Bravo pompei plans call for a 6" diameter chimney for a 36" oven and a 8" diameter chimney for a 42" oven. If you oven is a modest size then I think it could work well. helps create the draw and 1meter is good, not too short or long. might be worth checking on the builds here and also on our old forum (register to see pics, posting is disassembled) woodovenukforum.forumup.co.uk/

Many ovens don't have a chimney. Once they are burning correctly there is hardly any annoying smoke. I often thought if an Oven is outside it isn't necessary.

Whilst I agree that a flue is generally not necessary for an outside wfo, it does help firing and more importantly for me at least, makes it much more pleasant and safer to load and unload the oven. I still, singe hairs on my arms and get the occasional face-full of smoke when building the fire but much less than I think I would get without a flue.

Flue size. The US underwriters Laboratories state that it is best to use a flue as large as you need and no larger; So if you were burning 12 lbs/hour of wood you would be generating 97,000 btu's and therefore need a 6" Flue (My 41" oven would burn less than this) 16.5 lbs/hr=7" according to The US underwriters Laboratories. 21.6 lbs/hr=8" 27.3 lbs/hr=9" and so on Also I found this on an italian Oven building web site Diametro del forno diametro minimo canna fumaria in cm da 60 a 80 ----cm 20 da 80 a 120--- cm 25 da 120 cm in--- su 30
