Hi all,
I was pointed in the direction of your forum from a Facebook page "outdoor kitchen /bbq/bar area" and i have been hanging in the background as a guest for a while now.
Moved into out forever family home with our 2 young boys & the dog so no better time than to build an outdoor eating area than now, we live out in a small hamlet few miles outside our closest town (Kinross) and my nearest local is an hours walk away so we often entertain at our house.
However the garden has a big drainage problem that i am currently sorting out just now with 125meters of drains & retaining walls, this has opened up a nice flat surface for my bbq area and always wanted a WFO (wife also loves pizza so she has signed off on it) the area is about 5mx4/5m
After plenty research on the nightshift i am leaning towards a module build rather than doing my own, and thats down to time with work and family (and fishing). i am very tempted with the Milan 750 from pizza oven supplies and i have read some great build threads on this forum so just after some advise on this oven or if any one has any other recommendations around the same price as i would like to keep it under £1000???
I will set up a photobuket account and get a build thread set up as i will be looking for advise/tips along the way
thats me for now
thanks
sean

Sean, welcome to the daylight, however please note that the only way to keep your build to < £1000 is to not add up the bills.

Sean, welcome to the daylight, however please note that the only way to keep your build to < £1000 is to not add up the bills. I second that as I'm currently putting together a Milan 750 and once you start adding Calcium Silicate boards under the base and vermicrete over the insulation plus a waterproof render and worktops it all starts to add up. However if your a competent DIYer and you only want to do pizzas you should be able to keep the cost down. As far as the Milan 750 as a WFO, my only complaint is that the flue opening isn't in the entrance so a door wont seal in the residual heat as well as other WFOs but this is a common problem with modular WFOs. The price is good and the design is ok although I did have a few issues with lining up the three parts of the dome. My build so far milan-750-build-croxley-green. Happy to answer any questions

Hi webbm00, i had seen your build, interesting read.
I class myself as a competent DIYer (not if you ask the wife thought haha)
I think i will be moving forward with the milan 750, i requested some more information from the company but not heard back yet.
Just trying to finish off the garden first, how long will it take to build?
i will be in touch with plenty more questions as we go forward

Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be able to finish the worktop for the front of the oven and then I can get on with the arch and rendering Enjoy the journey I was told and still am

Webbmoo, this is where i am planing to put my oven, at an angle where the arrow is pointing so its facing the middle of the eating area. just so i can work out my spacing could you tell me the dimensions of the oven so i can build a jig. I am also thinking about sitting it back half way into the built up area, however this has been freshly back filled so will require settling down first or some deep foundations. has any one done this before? thanks sean

I imagine you’ve already seen my thread but here if not ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/3063/milano-750-buildCan’t recommend it highly enough. Great value and if you need any help then just give Nick a call. He even called me back on a Sunday on one occasion in response to an email I’d sent. As you’ll see I bought the full kit. I didn’t count what I spent in addition but once you’ve added in the sand and cement, blocks, lintels etc then I suspect I’m somewhere around £1,800 all in. That assuming also that you already own all the tools you need to build it, otherwise factor those in as well. If you buy just the basic mould and fire bricks for the floor and are able to make up the rest from ‘spare’ materials from your other building work then you might be able to come in closer to £1k but it would be a push I think. But do it once and do it to the standard you want otherwise you’ll wish you had at a later date and hopefully you’ll be using this for some years. I find a good technique to saving costs is to just build whatever you like and spend as much as you want and then half the total cost and tell your other half that’s what you spent!

Hi Truckcab79, your thread was the first one i looked at and really got me thinking about this WFO
That was a very impressive build, was showing the wife and she really likes the brick finish ( told her no chance)
I quickly spotted after looking into this is going to end up costing me a lot more than i was first thinking but as you say it will be there for a long time.
I was thinking about the kit that includes: Refractory bricks for the oven floor with fire proof cement and grog for pointing Chimney 500mm x 125 mm stove enamelled flue. Longer lengths are available Insulation and reinforcement – kiln blanket, aluminium vapour barrier, chicken wire. Heatproof silicon £720 + delivery
rather than just the basic kit least every thing would be here ready to build going to build a brick arch from the stone to match the house and render for a final finish
has any one bought the door or did you make it yourself?
thanks

Hi All, So finally in a position to start planing the outdoor kitchen layout now. The wooden box is 1sqM to replicate the WFO (milan 750) to try and get a rough idea about size.
Maybe its time to start a build thread then i can document it as i go. Getting to this stage has taken a few weeks of work in wind, hail, snow, rain & now sun. had to sort a major drainage issue before i could get going with this stage.

Easy to do so long as you can cut steel plate. Ideally you’ll be able to weld but no reason you can’t bolt the handle and stuff on if you design accordingly. Thermometers are pennies online. Mines not insulated but I’ll get round to it at some point.
