Just stumbled on this forum, I really can’t believe it. How did this pass me by 18 months ago when I was planning my outdoor wood fired oven! Started Easter 2018, finished, well literally just about to finish the final bit of pointing today, 6th May 2019 and I wanted to find out about curing the oven. I could kick myself for not finding this forum last year. Almost every topic on here would have saved me angst and head scratching. There really are are some very impressive builds on here, mine is, shall we say rustic looking. My cementing skills are appalling, ive spent ages trying to tidy up the brickwork, but really I think I may just leave it very rustic looking. will pop back later. jaysus I could really really kick myself

Hi wsb, or is that, world super bike's Anyway, now your here, welcome. To cure the oven you need to start with small fires. Slowly building up to larger fires. Mine took a couple of weeks with a fire every other day, and getting bigger. The idea is to slowly dry the oven. You will find its all trial and error, you learn as you go along. Once dried out, you will need to test it out. So some dough ready then and do a test cook. Nice and thin pizza base, authentic, cook for approx 90 seconds, should be about right. So adjust your heat from there, oven floor 350c plus. Pictures pls, on how you get on.

Thanks devontiger wsb = westsussexbluenose - Ii would fall off a superbike Pictures will follow, but will probably start another topic as it is a rather long story filled full of steep learning curves! Quick question for devontiger or indeed anyone else who stumbles on this.. I need some heat resistant matt black pain to finish off the opening to the the oven and also about two normal brick widths on the inside - it needs to be masonry paint I guess. I appreciate that nothing is guaranteed and accept that blistering or peeling and smoke damage will occur over time, but for the very first fire up at least it will look almost new! appreciate any guidance thanks you
