I’m about to cast my first dome, and read on here that it’s fine to dig your own clay from the ground. I live in Cornwall and I know there is clay in the ground not too far down, and there’s a stream nearby where my kids play and love to scoop the clay from the river bank and smear it on themselves. My question is this clay ok to use just mixed with sand to the correct consistency? Or do I need I need to clean it first. Obviously I’d remove any twigs etc. But do I need to do anything else to it?

Dig it as clean as you can and filter out twigs, toads & stones as you 'puddle', after all clay is clay.
