So after been in the shadows for some time now and reading all the great build threads on the Milan 750 oven i ordered one up and will arrive this Friday For years i have been wanting a pizza oven (had a cheap £100 tesco oven for last summer) so finally its about to happen cheap oven effort and bottle of home brew But first i had to sort out a big drainage problem in the back garden and with 2 little boys under the age of 2 and soon wanting to play in the garden it was time to sort it out then build my outdoor kitchen area all in the one hit. I was quoted 18k to do the drainage so that was out of the window straight away, so set about it myself and some help from family when needed.. will post up what i have done so far. Started this project back in February with a nice garden (not February time) the wife went to work and came back to this Cut a few months forward i put in 125 meters of drainage pipe, 30 meters of walls and lost about 8kg in weight Outdoor kitchen area taking shape now This is where the new oven is going to sit, built up with 140mm blocks then anstone to finish, holes are filled with rubble from the garden and will be topped with concrete. WFO will sit on a concrete work top that is still to be cast the same as the other one. i was tempted to cast it this week but i am going to try and hold off and wait till the WFO has arrived and build it to that rather than guess work. So thats where i am up too now, wanted to get this thread started as there will be questions to come

No worries had a few quotes and wanted to know if Its a fair price. Has 3 guys in and they all around the same price.
Next question.
Can you use the oven without the insulation layers?
Plan to build the first part next week before I go back to work for a few weeks. Once home I have a week then a family event so.would like to use it, but won't have time to.do.the insulation layers.
Thanks

the insulation does a couple of things, helps it retain heat so it can be used for longer (or even the next day) and makes it a be safer on the outside so you don't get burned touching it. Perfectly fine to use it without.

As above, I used my bare dome for a year without insulation and decoration.

So the oven has landed but we have a problem, the 4th bit of the oven is missing " src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png">My plan was to have this oven in place and bilt before i head back to work Thursday, cant see that happening now. but then the rain has started and the forecast not looking great The oven is bigger than i thought, i have jsut finished the rear slab for the oven. because that soil is loose since i dug it up i had to dig down very deep then fill it with all the left over scrap bricks, slabs etc from the garden and thump in place, then filled the hole with a C25 mix and several layers of Re-bar and have also tied it into the wall so defiantly going to be no movement. a bit over engineered but coming to the end of the project now so some spare materials to use up. Getting ahead of the rain Now i have to work out how high i want this oven, wife not sure about it been to high but i would like it at my elbow height as every one says. 1100mm. So tomorrow i plan to get all the brick work done to the height i want then sit and wait for the missing part really. cheers

had some mates round today so thought i would put them to work So the cast for the next concrete work top - pizza prep area is done ready for a poor this week. A few more runs of bricks added, unfortunately the foundation i cast yesterday was to short so had to play around with the bricks at the rear a fair bit so toke some time up. few more bricks to go in tomorrow.

Site the oven so the lip of the arch entry is directly above the top of your brickwork and the jobs a carrot ! That was my first idea but i have made the base way to big the block work it 1250mm deep then have the anstone on the back. I might once get the oven base in area see what room there is and if i need to i will cut the bricks back and take a few mm off. but now swinging to having a area in from of the oven - got 2 weeks to think about it coming up.

got the final layer of dress stone on today and its all starting to look very big. What do i fill the big air gaps with before putting on the oven base? the holes are 220mm deep i was thinking just sand or cement or Do i put an insulation layer in? i see & hear vermiculite mix used a lot, from what previous owners have said the oven will not need it, but if i have the space, why not cant do any harm. what is the best mix 7:1? and how deep? I could fill the bottom with rubble left over then cast a 100mm slab? would i take the breeze blocks out the middle and just have the outside blocks? thanks for any feedback. Got the form made up for the second worktop. Covered with a sheet and praying for no rain tonight and i can cast it tomorrow.

I was just about to type 'find some old marble slab' before I read your last. As to the holes you want filling, try some off cuts of the blocks you built the plinth with, fill remaining gaps with sand.
