Hi folks! Just registered here because I intend to build a clay oven, Im looking forward to getting some ideas from others on here. I'm thinking of making it portable so it can be wheeled into the garage, I know it will be very (top) heavy so I had thought of building in long handles like a wheelbarrow but easily removable when parked for use, and a removable slide-out axle with 2 wheelbarrow wheels nice and wide for extra stability. I wonder if anyone has successfully built one to be portable? I like the look and build process of the one in the link but with railway sleepers round the outside to make the top square, with clay bricks on their edge as the oven floor with a layer of glass bottle bedded in sand. link

If you go through my build thread below you'll find a very unstable 'moveable' oven, however I've just moved house and getting off a low set patio cost me the use of a very large Hi-Ab.

I love the fact that all that weight is on those plastic wheels. I've got casters on my outdoor table that are sturdier than those

Thats quite like what I have in mind, Im going to weld up a steel 'table' frame approx 1m x 1m at the top. then a railway sleeper cut to form a 200mm deep square trough on top which I will fill with sand/glass bottles and clay brick layer. I have been thinking about a removeable pull handle for moving the thing, which could then be mounted on on side when the oven is lit to form a small platform to set things on. I had intended to build one of these ovens myself after seeing the amount of money a pre-cast one costs..but the longer I think about it, the more expensive my plans are getting!! I already have 2 pneumatic wheelbarrow wheels which I intend for moving the oven, hopefully they will be substantial enough

The trolley I used is rated at 500kg, but as you may have noticed, the solid plastic wheels go flat with all the weight on it.
