hi all - hope everyone is well during these funny old times.
As one of many lockdown projects I'm putting a roof above my cooking area to protect me and the pizzas from the rain. As the existing single wall flue is located too near where the roof will be and I'll need to come through it. So I've bought all the kit I'll need including a high temp roof seal.
As part of all that I've spent a fair sum on twin wall flue. Through many hours of research I bought what I thought was going to be the right fit and all the new parts do indeed fit very nicely into each other. However....
As part of my research I went to my oven manufacturer to confirm flue size. I'd measured it at 5" but flues can come in 5" = 125mm or 5" = 130mm. My oven co came back to me some time later to confirm 130mm but by this time I was fed up waiting and bought 125mm stuff. Oh dear.
Long and short of it is that there's a tiny bit of play in the joint between the first piece of flue (single wall) and the clay oven. Overall it won't affect the integrity of the flue as it will be braced but for completeness I'd like to seal it/cement it somehow. I was thinking of using vitcas high temp sealant or similar but would welcome any advice or better ideas. At this stage I'd rather avoid the agg of buying again in 130mm for the sake of minor play.
Thanks
So

You would be better sealing any gaps with ceramic rope or even stuff it with ceramic fibre blanket. Those sort of area are going to get hot and you need to allow for expansion so what ever you seal it with will need some flexibility.

I would recommend Envirograf 1200C sealant - good stuff and used on my indoor woodburner. It outclasses the old fashioned brittle firecement sealants. It's available on Ebay. Lance
