Hi, I have little to no experience with anything "manual" really, just low-skill DIY (office worker) - but really want to build a pizza oven......but I cannot find a central place that has instructions, and more importantly, a list of materials with quantities.......
I think I know what to build the base and to what dimensions (to hold a 1m pizza oven) but I cannot find a step-by-step pizza oven guide. I've seen countless videos, but no detailed literature that supports it !!!
Help needed
Mark

Hi Mark, I think you’ll struggle with a step-by-step guide as self builders use such a range of materials it would be superfluous; I suggest you look at links in the section you are interested in, i.e. Cob built, brick built, cast refractory etc and decide which route you want to go down. There is an American site called forno-bravo which has a calculator to predict the number of bricks you’ll need for a diameter of X, but it is a bit anal and cutting trapezoids isn’t much fun. This link for example deals with the construction of a Pompeii style oven: ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/thread/447/photo-diary-stage-views

hi - thanks for the feedback - I've now seen the Forno-bravo PDF that lists a lot of the foundational steps - think i'll use the Pompeii firebrick approach.....as for the link you have shared for photo-diary-stages - the link does not appear to work (appreciate it's not you page)

Sorry about the link: Go to ‘Home’ (top left) and scroll down to ‘Guide to Pompeii build’ and help yourself.

hi - thanks for the feedback - I've now seen the Forno-bravo PDF that lists a lot of the foundational steps - think i'll use the Pompeii firebrick approach.....as for the link you have shared for photo-diary-stages - the link does not appear to work (appreciate it's not you page) Hi Mark, I'm just about finished on my build and I too used the forno bravo pompeii style oven build plans. I agree, they offer a sound basis for your build and provide invaluable points of reference. I also made use of the forno bravo forum and found a wealth of information and tips on there, including the dome calculator spreadsheet which I downloaded and having inputted my dome size and brick dimentions, automatically calculated the number of bricks required, number of courses and cutting angles. As said, ive just the doors to build and a couple pieces of granite trim to fit and my 40" internal diameter pompeii style oven is complete. I finished the grouting of the granite tiled dome today thankfully and will give it a couple days before starting my curing fires. Its taken 6 months to build and has been one hell of a journey and a tremendous learning experience. One piece of advice I could offer is, Stick to the basic principles but don't be afraid to experiment, and be flexible with your plans and how you picture your finished product. The other thing is, don't be afraid to ask, whatever problem you come up against, someone on here or forno bravo will surely have been there. Good luck with you build journey. Lance (Wickersley)
