Hi All,
Looking for a bit of advice from anyone who has created a polished concrete worktop. They are big in the States but not so much over here.
My oven surround tiles "blew" this winter so i am going to replace them with a polished concrete worktop. I have researched endless projects mainly from the states and obviously we can't get the same products as they do.
I have cast many samples to find the right aggregate/addition and have dismissed my first option which was the coloured glass but it was fun drinking lots of beer to get the bottles! I will seed the concrete with my local pink limestone as it polishes up beautifully.
The point i need help or thoughts on is the sealer.
I will wet polish the concrete up to 3000 grit but need to find a decent sealer to protect against water ingress. I have a sample from Smart seal which i will apply at the end but i also wonder if anyone has applied any other types and at what stage of polishing.
Cheers
Gary

I've just had slate floor tiles installed and sealed with this stuff (MATTSTONE Impregnating Sealer) which states suitable for exterior concrete; when I asked how often I should reapply after the two initial coats he shrugged and said annually if I could be bothered. Works a treat as the floor gets regularly washed and wiped 👍🏾 ps - If you want a Matt finish send me a bottle as we have about 3litres left over 😉

Thanks Oblertone, I will take a look at the manufacturer to see if they do a Gloss finish. I am going to be shining the heck out of the concrete so would really like to see my face in it.
I have tried a Matt finish sample on a polished concrete sample and it made it extremely dull, not what i was after.
Cheers
Gary And thanks for the kind offer of sharing your surplus.
