Hi Everyone,
I get a little smoke at the start, which usually goes after 5 mins or so. I did wonder at the time about enlarging to a 6" flue rather than the installed 5".
Anyone tried this? Difficulty? Success?
Or does everyone stick with 5"?
Thanks Paul

I’ve built three with the supplied 5”. Two with 500mm flues and one with 1000mm flue which should in theory improve draw. Doesn’t in reality seem to make much difference. Would also be interested to hear from someone who has ‘gone large’ as I did contemplate using an adapter and a 6”, 1000mm flue on my own. Never got round to it. Mine smokes for a couple of minutes. Soon as the flames get up no more smoke at all and so long as you feed it regularly with wood rather than dumping a load on, it stays that way.

The ovens I build have a 5” flue, but are only 540mm (21”) internal diameter. My oven is 12 years old, notice there’s no smoke staining on the outer decorative arch. IMHO an oven any larger than 600mm should have a 150mm (6” ) flue and bigger than 1000mm should have a 200mm (8”) flue. Also, what is just as important is volume at the base of the pipe where smoke can collect. An inverted funnel form provides a good flow for smoke to enter the flue pipe.
