This is my first post on the new forum. After some good advice on the old site, I very nearly bought a vitcas casa oven but then the weather and work got in the way of the "build". A year on and i'm even more determined to get an oven up and running, but I'm now not sure which modular oven to opt for. Had a look on ebay and found the following pre-built oven for sale: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brick-Wood-Fired-Pizza-Oven-Bread-Indoor-Outdoor-/221014418675Looks like a nice product and is reasonably priced, but i wonder what the experts think? Does anyone here have experience of this oven? I would welcome your thoughts. Cheers once again. Huw

Hello Huw
I think Vitcas and E-bay ovens are quite different. Without knowing the e-bay oven...I can't comment, but there are many members who are buying...or have bought modular ovens in the recent past. I hope you get some feedback from the members on this.

Huw Blimey - that looks good value - and nothing to do except curing !! thought I'd looked at most modulars, but not seen this one........... As usual depends on a number of factors- space, time commitment, budget, DIY interest, portability (!!!) etc etc even tool set looks good ! Keep us updated & GL Simon

Ive heard a few people comment that the vitcas doesnt retain heat well? Not my view mind! I was gonna buy the spanish brick type, the only thing that stopped me was the weight and limited access to the rear of my property

I think that oven is a regular mass produced oven which lots of sellers seem to do. I think they do it in other sizes and I am sure a company who used to show their face for general foody related posts. Gardengiftshop and I am fairly sure they sold it and not surprisingly had only good words to say.
I think possibly others might have had it also so a search on the old forum might turn up some opinions.
personally I don't know anything about it tho sorry

It appears to be a Spanish made oven sold by a firm in Portugal and shipped direct by them. Not sure what you'd do if it didn't meet your expectations and you wanted your money back. Seems very cheap too with all the kit thrown in so I wonder if its a lightweight job designed with the mobile market in mind - Blistering Barbecues use one that looks something like this.
Having said that his feedback looks ok.
If you want something a little more static I bought an Italian modular oven in kit form (Linea Vz) off E Bay (still some on there) imported by a firm in Manchester so I go back to them if it goes wrong. Cost was the same as this one but just for basic oven. All tools, chimney, insulation etc have cost me extra. Steve

Thanks for all the tips. This forum never fails to disappoint; Webbaldo's advice about access to rear of property was something I'd completely overlooked, but tape measure confirms I should be ok. Just. Thanks Turkey for pointing out that this is similar to others out there. Will do some more reseach. I suppose the dilemma for me is if i go for it, whether from ebay or a local source, and then discover that heat retntion ain't great (gardengiftshop site claims 400 degrees, but they also claim the vitcas oven does as well, which contradicts what i've heard others here say), whether I can add extra insulation afterwards. The summer's nealy here though, so I'm just going to have to make a decision!!!

Howdy,
I was looking hopefully at these on Ebay as it would save £100 over the gardengifts price when my missus pointed out that it could be subject to import duties..
If you look at the price for delivery info on the Ebay listing there is some teeny tiny writing which says you may be laible for additional customs fees (I assume if the lorry with your oven on board draws the short straw and gets inspected.... )
Apparently this could be 20% of the sale price. Eeeek!

It's hard to tell from the pictures but it seems the door is very high (Letting heat out) And possibly the chimney is right above the centre of the dome (Again letting heat out). But like I said it's hard to tell from the pictures. Weight seems good for the size. I'd imagine most of the price must be for transit. Another direction considering the delivery time is to get a bricklayer to build you one or build your own (Read Russel Jeavons Book) I'd never laid a brick in my life and built my pompei brick oven in a day thanks to Russel Jeavons "Your Brick Oven" Or get someone here to make one for you possibly.

Well I've finally gone and done it Decided to take Stevejhunt's advice and chose a UK based supplier (Linea VZ). Opted for their Ponza design, which is a bit more than I was originally planning to fork out but the ease of build was a major attraction. I feel like a bit of a fraud on this forum given the effort that most have devoted to their design and build, so I won't bore you with detail of the assembly. It really was quite straightforward: with some help from son #1, it took us all of three hours to complete. The only problem we faced was the delivery man took a big chunk out of the tarmac drive when trying to push 650kg on a trolley on a hot day More than happy to post pics of the final assembly if someone can help me with how to insert images. More importantly, I will definitely post some pics of the first pizza when I get round to curing it and firing it up in anger. Can't wait ;D
