Just a quick introduction........ Having fancied a wood fired oven for ages I ordered a book from Amazon entitled 'Your Brick Oven building it and baking in it'. I am sure some of you will be familiar with it. Although a slim volume and quite sketchy with regard the build, it has been quite inspirational. My design has been a hybrid of many designs featured on the Internet as well as from the book. As is usual I have got a little carried away. I have no pictures on this device but will try to add some later, however the build is of stone construction and is essentially two walls at right angles to one another with the oven in the corner. When choosing materials for the floor and dome, I put samples into my log burning stove for the evening to expose them to very high temperatures. Having turned a couple of hopefuls into fragments I eventually found that a local brick 'Newton Gap' was favourite for the dome. For the base I have used some block paving that I had a quantity of. I ground the spacers off the edges and installed them upside down, as the top face had both a slight ripple as well as a chamfer on the edge. I will start a thread in the appropriate section tomorrow. Great to have found such a useful resource, I look forward to learning from your combined wisdom. Cheers
