Hi All, I am looking to construct an outdoor cooking area in the garden. I was thinking that a brick built table type thing rendered afterwards (to hide my shocking brick work) and a food prep area with a wood store underneath. I wanted to put a wood oven at one end like this one www.thestonebakeovencompany.co.uk/shop/wood-pizza-ovens/primo/I have very little experience with building and so thought that i could build the table and buy the oven to put on it. What do you think it this oven and is it good value for money? Is a wood oven significantly better than a BBQ? Does anyone have any plans that might help me with this project? Thanks for your help

Hi Nathan, don't be shy register :-) we won't bite lol. but back to serious part, we have a few active builds atm which are multi use, faz has one here ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pompeiiovens&action=display&thread=291there are more, and even more still on our old forum domain (google it says we have moved all over it, if you register you can see pictures). with regards to that specific oven its hard to say without seeing it, anything that does not need insulating and is not massively thick walled I feel is strange, the home build plans have 4" walls all round and at least 4" of insulation. No chimney is also a bit strange as this creates the draw for a better burn and less smoke, I am sure it will burn clean eventually but you will get more in your face. With a chimney tho you do need the door to be inner to stop the hot air rushing out of it, but only for retained heat cooking like batches of bread or meat roasting. I don't want to persuade you one way or the other but these things are an investment so look for reviews , if possible see one and make an informed decision. are they better than a BBQ, well that is really a grill and this is an oven so chalk and cheese really. You can cook pizza in a decent kettle BBQ but you can also grill steak in the embers in a wfo.... they are separate but look at Tuscan grills these fit in the mouth of larger ovens allowing traditional BBQ cooking in the two. Also perhaps buy a outdoor cookbook to get an idea of what you can achieve in each appliance as there is some overlap, we love them but make sure its right for you. We love a good BBQ or smoker also so plenty of reason to stick around and share your experience no matter what you choose.
