Having made the decision that we need a wood fired oven, and spending hours on this forum, we are seriously considering buying the woodfire gourmet modular oven. Probably the more expensive one and using the firebrick alternative. Has anyone got any positive (or negative) experiences of woodfire gourmet modular builds. Thanks.

Thank you, we've read through those. Although not having made a final decision on that oven we are going to start building the base. Hole was dug yesterday. A question (already!). Do we need to put in a damp proof course or a waterproofing additive to the concrete slab? Our garden is on well drained chalk. Photos will follow. Thanks..

Hello Julie......welcome to the forum I have no first-hand experience of Woodfire-gourmet ovens so can't comment, but it's nice that Turkey found the comments on the old forum. The only modular oven I know...so can recommend is from Jay Emery www.dingley-dell.com . Prices vary greatly from company to company so it's well worth the research you are doing. You could post the same post in the Modular oven category where you will probably get a lot more feedback (or we can transfer this thread if you wish) It is always a good idea to incorperate as much damp proof course...and membrane in your build as possible. Lay a blinding of sand on top of your base hardcore and lay a poly membrane on top of your sand. This link to a Pompeii build will explain it better.. picasaweb.google.com/115426447285405371194/WoodFiredOven Terry

Thanks, could you transfer it please as I don't know how to. I'll now add damp proof to the shopping list!

We decided on the woodfired gourmet and we're pleased with it. It's now almost finished, but we have no computer at the moment so can't post pictures yet - although we've taken many. Up to the stage of lighting small fires to dry it out so getting excited at the thought of immenient pizza!
