Hi folks,
Im about to embark on my first pizza/bread oven. Im looking to do this as cheaply as possible utilising reclaimed fire bricks where possible, clay finish inside and out. Any pointers for supply of materials (im near Alford Lincs) would be gratefully received.

Hello Steve...welcome to the forum
Nothing wrong with an economical build......dozens of us (...and me) have taken that route. After reading your post are you going to make the hearth from reclaimed fire-bricks then build a clay/cob oven on top of that?......if so......build a base.....then lay either vermecrete (vermiculite, cement and water)...or thermolite blocks on top of your base....then your fire-brick hearth. The clay can be either dug locally or can be bought from "turf suppliers"..quite cheap. Down my way (S.Wales) it costs £12 per ton but you have to pick it up yourself.
Please give us more info on exactly what you have in mind and we can help you further.
When you decide on...clay, Pompeii or Barrel...create your own thread under that particular section.....you will get a lot more response once have done this and people can relate to your particular build.

HI Steve, glad to see another taking the plunge with regards to cheap I would scour gumtree now and freecycle for local building material thats left over, the odd bag of cement or sand here and there will help, as will a big pile of bricks from a old wall or extension. Firebricks are good for a build but mighty hard to come by second hand, and even less easy to find free so perhaps you might want to consider other materials such as clay if its an ecconomy build, which is also a green build

good luck with the build !! I have just done a remodel on my cob AND just put a lid on him , its satisfying to get not only such fun on the build but on the usage !!!!!!!! and trying new stuff all the time . I filled my base with bottles and sand ( beg, borrowed and stolen !!! ) if you have not got clay an excellent suggestion here was to look for a building site and ask if they have dug any up. Open up your own thread and keep us in the loop !

I have just completed a dome using 2nd hand night storage heater bricks. I haven't fired her up so far so I'm not 100% sure how it will perform but I am confident Good luck with your build however you end up doing it - just don't forget to post lots of pictures
