I have found a source of clay for those that want it now and don't have the time or inclination to go natural for clay.
This site sells clay in 25KG blocks at around £6.75 per block.
www.hobbyceramicraft.co.uk/slip_clay_full_detail.php?uid=25.
I have been told that this is perfect for a nice cob/pizza oven but also that this is an expensive way to get it, collecting in person makes it far cheaper
if you do have time to go get it your self this is the advice I have just had from cannyfradock ready for the next one (going for one in the log cabin if this works out)
"The best source for clay (other than digging it up) it to pester the people that sell "turf" for making lawns"
"a short drive to the outskirts of any city you will find turf suppliers. After a bit of legwork (in the car) the second company I approached said they sell 2 sorts of clay.....the blue sticky stuff....perfect for the first layer (puddling) ......and the normal brown clay....perfect for the second layer........they will sell either at £12 per ton"
A dam site cheaper than what I bought, although I did go down the river cottage route and used 2-1 mix of builders sand to clay (hopefully I followed the recipe properly and it will not be a disaster) and if it is I now know where to get it cheaper for the next time.
although it is nothing special my youngest and I had great fun mixing it with our feet and he did sleep well that night so a win win.
ill post picks up later although it really is basic.
now I just need to get the tools to cook with
cheers all
