Finally i am cracking on with my build. I am just about to lay the floor under the hearth of my barrel / vault. This is going to be thermolite blocks on top of a reinforced concrete screed. I have not yet put a damproof course in and was considering putting it between the concrete and the thermolite. What sort of temperatures can i expect at this point ie will it melt or destroy a plastic membrane?

I may be answering my own question!!!!! If i have only air below - into my wood store, i am not sure i need it. Perhaps only at the edges where it is supported by the concrete blocks.

You can put on the supporting walls, at any level above the ground, as long as it isolates the hearth.

Isolec
The DPC (damp proof coarse) is put in 1 block above ground level to stop rising damp. If this is forgotten it can go on top of the top coarse before you pour your slab. A DPM (damp proof membrane) is put underneath the base concrete......these are all over the top EXTRA measures to keep the hearth as dry as possible.
If you have already poured your slab then I would leave it out. Putting anything in now may just cause it to sweat and defeat it's purpose.
As long as the sides of your slab are protected from the elements then it will be OK......As I said the dpc is only an extra precaution, but the dpm under the base WILL help keep your storage area dry.
