No cooking here, just been tiling the outside of the oven and finishing the brickwork off today. Hopefully next weekend will still be sunny as we have some family coming down and it would be good to get the BBQ fired up It seems to me like finishing off the last few bits and pieces seems to take longer than building the bloomin oven in the first place

Just me and the better half here today for a change. However this good weather cannot be ignored - the WFO had to be fired up and knock up some pizza for the two of us, and we had to open a bottle of last year's plum wine which is now very tasty. When it cools down a bit I'll get some oven bottom muffins in the oven to bake as well so we can have them for tomorrow's lunch. Attachments:

A definitely summery fish stew cooked up yesterday - served with cous-cous for extra mediterranean vibe. This weekend looks good for some more outdoor living I hope. [/img] Attachments:

We cook every day throughout the year in WFO's.
33C here today I got a good sweat on my afternoon walk. Even the swimming pool is nearly too warm to cool at 26c.
Bloomin' neighbour keeps giving us cucumbers and plums - like we don't grow them!! Does he think as we are veggies we eat ten cucumbers and 5 kilos of plums a day?
I pass the produce on to further flung neighbours.
We had a strange failure in the chimney of the conventional WFO today the wooden roof expanded so much in the heat it put pressure on the chimney and caused a large crack.
Our rasberry forest is giving a kilo of raspberries a day as it just come into the season.
We have so many tomatoes we are making chutneys and sauces. Will be drying some this week in the sun.
Bought a bottle of gas this week for the indoor kitchen even though it hardly gets used 31 euros!!!! it cost 21 when we moved here.

Last one we bought was 25 from Carrefour hope it has not gone up that much!! BBQ today ( as usual ) taught gran daughter to make stuffed mushrooms, sweet potato patties , apple and pork and apple and onion burgers . we are all stuffed now!! Had bizarre kebabs for pud.
Squares of brioche dipped in melted sugar and butter and thread onto sticks with fresh fruit brush with melted butter and sugar (or alcohol of choice) and BBQ.

No cooking......but building a Clay oven for a community in Raglan. Received a phone call Thursday evening.....can you come and build us a clay oven on the weekend....for free?. Of course I will...I said. One day someone will actually pay me to build one of these beauties.
Due to such short notice I had plan A in mind......I'm currently on Plan F, but have managed to build a temp base (I will use a forklift to lift the oven up next week and put it on a timber frame).....laid some rc lintols with thermolite blocks on top. Storage heater bricks on top of this. .....Didn't need to, but built a nice arch and arch entry (with rebate) and have formed the sand dome, covered with newspaper ready for the 2 clay layers tomorrow.(Sun 12th Aug)
I have 6/7 international students helping me(American, Indosean, French, Canadian and others from other nations)....
We will source the clay from the side of a brook tomorrow and finish the oven.......I might even risk it and scoop out the sand and light a fire tomorrow.
It's a smallholding with eco projects going on and this weekend is an "open" weekend for the public.
It's in Raglan near Monmouth and if any member is in the area and would like to come along please PM me for the details.
Terry
p.s....the project leader is taking lots of photo's which I will post on a new thread in the Clay oven section as soon as I receive them.
