Hi All
Just a quick thread
Whilst it will always be best to use the finished face of a fire brick facing in to the chamber of an oven, does anyone know just how the cut face of a brick faced inwards perform.
I cut my bricks using a stihl disc cutter with water feed, and the finish ends up very grainy by comparison with the smooth finished face
Will the grainy finish deteriorate faster than the smooth finished face
Also, If I grind a brick to level out the floor for example, you end up with a similar grainy finish, will this wear quicker than the rest with continued use of the peel
Cheers

In all honesty I don't think it will make any difference. The only difference being the factory face will be better than any domestic cutter can produce?

I found my cut face was better than the factory face so I have actually used those as the internal face in the dome.
Given it's the material not the finish that makes them suitable for use I can't see it matering bar slightly (and I mean unmeasurably) affecting the internal gas flow due to the rougher surface.
The cut face however cannot really be contaminated so for second hand bricks (ie mine) is reasuring.
