Here you go!
500l 30inch ID Travis Perkins were the cheapest I could find, with the discount (and nice and local for me too).

I've used 2.5 bags for the hearth insulation so far (40" internal diameter). Planning on using 5ish more bags (I have an odd-shaped enclosure planned).
All from Travis Perkins, cost £8.99 for a 100l a bag.

I used 7 bags I think, for Jewsons for about £10 a bag.

I used 1/2 a 100l bag (£10) to insulate under the oven floor. The surface of the floor brick was up to 500C this weekend, the under side got to 260C whereas below the vermiculite, the logger recorded only as high as 46C after several hours. I wish I'd insulated the dome this well...

Hi All
Excuse my ignorance, but can you get more than one size of vermiculite (grain size) from Jewson's etc. or is it all just more or less the same
If there is more than one size available, which is best for us?
I am off to buy some for my project in the morning
Cheers

Nick
I think the vermiculite from builders merchants comes normally just in 1 grade, sort of medium grade. Other members have bought finer grade vermiculite from garden centers.
My 90cm Pompeii took 3 100ltr bags and it barley gives 4" cover. I find the medium grade stuff awkward to bind together so I may add a finer grade bag to the medium stuff on my next build to see if it's easier to work with.

I think you can get different grades of vermiculite but as its moved around a shop/warehouse it will degrade due to handling. From an insulation point of view, the larger the better, though as Terry says, handling the vermicrete may be a little more difficult.
