Right then...i'm getting all vain. I love my oven, and i want the world to have the chance to see it when they do a google images search, just like i saw all the other ovens when i searched last year! Can anyone help me please? What do i do to get my place in the crowd? Turkey?

I think the exact magic on how google selects its image is secret but I would expect its a combo the how well the search terms match word located round the picture on its host site and how well regarded the host and sites which link to the image.
if you want to boost ranks I would make sure the oven is linked on forno bravo and our old site and also any well regarded pizza sites, the more its liked to and the better the sites I would imagine the higher in the ranks the image will be.
somewhere must detail such an endeavour as I bet there is big business in having your site / pic in the top area of results.

You could put it on PInterest - at least that way you can track how many times it has been re-pinned.

do i need to tag or name the pictures, or will the fact that they're on posts here with associated wordings enough? Most of the time this ere tinternet world and its language is just plain alien to me!
How'd you know how well a website is liked?
If one was also thinking of a small business, is a blogger site wothwhile easy way to start?

Danno If you are thinking along the lines of publicity......or a blog......or a small business venture with a website, my advice is......go for it!!! The prime example of this is Marcus (minesamojito)...I think it's spelled like that. He first started posting on the old forum sharing his "half barrel" vault conversion Wood-fired oven build with us. He then started posting brilliant images of his WFO...and grilling food pictures. Shortly after he was encouraged to start his own blog which is now very successful and probably has twice as many visits as both my forums. His blog is here.. countrywoodsmoke.wordpress.com/We did have some technical stuff on the old forum and although we don't want to stray too far from Wood-fired ovens I think a section on blogging etc would help our members go down that route.....I'll pencil it in on my "to do" list. If you send me a PM with a bit more general info on what you want to do I can give you a bit more info. Terry p.s....it's difficult to re-find everybody's individual build. you can start off by putting your build thread in your signature...that's a first step.

www.tagseoblog.com/google-images-ranking-factors-infograficthat url shows what some research shows regarding image selection. in your blog do you get raw html access? you might want to use the lat text and rename your images to be more appropriate to their content, and if possible have the page name and such altered. so you could use the following to make it more search friendly.? <img src="http://countrywoodsmoke.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/duck_black_pudding.jpg?w=570&h=380" alt="duck and black pudding recipe idea" />

Danno A lot of the things I've learned regarding computers ....how they work and "how to do this or that" has come from Turkey, and many of the things on this forum was set up by Turkey. All that knowledge learned from Turkey and other members of the forum hasn't gone to waste. For your picture's to appear on a google image search they just need more exposure. With the amount of people visiting your build thread it won't be long before your picture's start to appear. I'm not sure yet if you have created a gallery of your build using one of the free image hosting sites available. From there you can make your pictures "public" which the search engine spiders will find soon enough. A blog is even better. Any of these can be put in your signature so the link appears every time you make a post. I always encourage that......if you've built your own wood-fired oven...then flaunt it. If all this sounds a bit daunting...don't worry. Practice makes perfect and you can pester us to put you in the right direction. I'm hopefully starting something "physical" next year with WFO's and have already started a website with a gallery. I've just added your oven (if you want me to remove it then let me know) which will give your pictures more exposure. Scroll down this page of my website www.celticwoodfiredovens.com/gallery.html to see your oven. You can also add your own page with pictures for more publicity, but to be honest this is me being cheeky as if you add your own page it will also benefit me as well as yourself. ....just some options. ....just had a little play on Google to see how your oven and the pics are performing.......ratings wise.
I typed "Suffolk wood-fired oven" in and your thread was 6th on the first page ("another Suffolk oven" was 5th...sorry)....no pics though when I clicked in "images"
Then tried "Suffolk Pompeii oven" and you came up 1st on the first page. I then clicked on images.......on the first line of pics was a dirty great big pile of bricks...from your thread. Your oven pics then came thick and fast.....
Your pics may not be there for the moment on a general search for wood-fired ovens, but, they are being recognized by google...time and further clicks on your thread/oven will push your images up the ladder of recognition.

"If one was also thinking of a small business, is a blogger site worthwhile easy way to start?" .........your words are now getting me worried. Are you going to be my direct competition in 2013?...
....only joking. If you have an idea...go for it. Give us a shout if you want any advice...or you can always PM me...

Hi There guys, Just wanted to add my tuppence, thanks for the kind comments about my blog and pics terry Blogs are great and really easy way to get your photos and info out there, I can recommend wordpress, it's free and very easy to use, and as long as you tag your pics it will get them out there. Give it a go, as Terry says, the guys encouraged me to give it a go, and I haven't looked back, though very very busy cooking and taking photos/videos now..... People love looking at pics and videos so it's a great way to get a business seen and to start you off, If you do well you can always use a full website later on Feel free to ask any questions if I can help I will Cheers Marcus

it is also worth saying it has never been so cheap to set your own domain and website up, I have had fornobrittania.co.UK registered for a while just because it was available and fancied a play on the web side of things, was a photo sharing site a while ago (practice installing scripts and such), now defunkt , perhaps I might use it to host my own photos or something its all great fun to play with if that's your sort of thing :-)
