Guys, can you give me rough guide on how thick the coats of render were that you applied, please?
I can't seem to find much about the thickness, or any troubles anyone had, or didn't have, etc.
I'd say that two coats are the norm, about half inch thick?
I've plastered a bit, with results getting better each time i've done it, but never over a dome!

I agree with mwood but in the past I have taken advice from the "plasterers" on site who put waterproofer in the first coat and the final coat is normal render. I think the logic behind this is that once you put waterproofer in with render....it deadens the mix so just slap it on..."scratch it" and don't play about with it. The last render coat is normal so once applied with a trowel you can wait until it hardens a little then use a sponge to fine it down to a reasonable finish.....I also then painted it...when dry with a waterproof masonry paint.
When the next Pompeii build comes around I shall use "K-rend" which is a waterproof render that comes in 25kg bags. You just add water and it comes in 5 or 6 different colours. It costs about £8? a bag and you will need perhaps 3 bags. Some builders merchants stock it, but it can always be bought over the counter at your local branch of "Sheffield insulation".
