Construction of my 36" pompeii is now well under way - on our 4th course (pictures to follow soon...) But I think I've hit a bit of a snag... due to unforseen issues, the final dome height is now looking close to 20" high and the door height some 11.5" high - giving a door to dome ratio of just 57%. I'm not building a vent either.... Will this oven work? Answers on a postcard , please - I think I could do with the kindling

It will work fine - better smaller than bigger.
My father designs jet engines and he explained to me how the airflow works, your combustion is self limited by the airflow.
You may just need to heat the oven up for longer.
No post card - we save any paper and wood for fires...
Currently drying shrooms and walnuts on one of our wood burning stoves.

I'm sure you'll be alright. Don't get me started on the 'magic' 63%.

I agree. I'm sure it will work fine. We give out %'s of dome height to diameter and entrance height to dome height. These percentages are meant to give the oven the best performance, but often Clay ovens are often built with a high dome and a lot of the Clay ovens don't have an entrance or vent........just an opening cut out of the clay form......they all work.
Your oven falls into the "ball park" figures of these percentages anyway.

Bob, Tony, Terry, Thank you all very much for the reassurance - I was worried that so much effort and money was going to go up in smoke (excuse the pun...)
Thanks again! Kyp
