Surprising... I bought vermiculite from jewsons just the other week - £14.99 initially, then they applied a 40% discount...

I originally set up this account with Gareth Owens of the Newport branch. He has since joined the Jewson head office and I'm finding it difficult to contact him.
I shall keep trying this week as I need to clarify that the % discounts are still as agreed.
I shall post something here when I receive any news.

Cool I was just wondering if I should try my luck at getting some cash back or not... Nothing to lose after all.

Dunnes
I just spoke to Gareth Owens and he will look into it and get back to me by the end of the week.
He thinks that as I haven't updated the account for a few years (I've just let it run and let anybody use it) that it may need me to update/refresh the account to make sure ALL the % discounts are available at ALL branch's in the UK.
I'll also see if you can get a refund for you.
Again....let you know when I hear more.

I sent a random email to head office and got a prompt reply from the branch. Unfortunately it just stated that all discounts were applied that are on the account and it may not show that a discount has been applied on the receipt. Sounds like the account may be missing some discounts, let me know what Gareth has to say cheers

Hi Terry,
Thank you for setting up this account and discounts.
I used it for the first time today to buy a sack of lime. The invoice showed a discount of 39.68 percent. The price including tax was £10.64.

Hi Joe
Nice to see you on the forum and.....welcome aboard. Are you building an oven.....or did you get round to making a Mark11 mobile wood-fired oven?
You've prompted me to chase up Jewsons over a few discrepancies in the % discounts received of late.

Hi Terry,
I still haven't done anything with my big bread oven, I should be heading up to the dales soon and sorting it out. I am not sure what I will do with it but first off I am going to bring it down south.
I have made a cast pizza oven which I am fitting in the back of a van at the moment.

Hi Joe
I'd love to hear more about your cast bread/oven. Maybe you can start a new thread of your own. I know that lots of members would be interested.
Please check your PM (private messages)....I'll explain a bit further.

Hi folks, I'm aiming to begin my pizza oven project this weekend after considerable reading both here and elsewhere, so thanks for being so enthusiastic! What I wanted to know is, is this discount that you've struck up still valid? (Thank you in advance for saving me a few quid!)

I know Cranny Fradock has been to get the discount reconfirmed with Jewson's and has asked for the help of any forum member that can spare the time to re-establish / confirm the national account pricing.
I went into my local Jewson today (Tetbury, Gloucestershire) and asked if it was possible to do this. I was told that any changes to the account have to take place at the branch where the account was opened.
Sorry Terry I tried.
The chap found the discount and applied it to the cement (39.91% discount) £4.18+vat 25kg bag. He said the sand was coming out at over £3 with the discount so reduced it further to £2.70 + vat per bag.
It would be interesting to see what others are paying for their materials and from where - there is definitely still a live national forum discount a Jewsons so its worth going in and seeing deals you can get

Hi all
Firstly, thanks Terry for setting this discount up - starting on my first oven now and trying to keep the budget tight as possible; this certainly helps.
I've been down to Jewson's Winchester to pick up some vermiculite and cement, and while I was there I got them to bring up our current discount rates for the WOOP248 account:
Lime - 39.6% Vermiculite - 40.03% Firebricks - 33.23% Fireclay -33.42% Cement - 39.84%
Hope this is helpful! The pre-discount and pre-vat prices were: 100l v4 vermiculite - £14.99 Hydrated lime - £15.94 Fireclay - £28.07 Firebrick - £464 / 100 !! Building sand - £3.49 Mastercrete 25kg - £8.18
With discount I just paid £83 for 5 bags of vermiculite and 5 bags of mastercrete (need some for another project, not doing a 1:1 =D )
I'll no doubt be back asking for advice in no time at all - just about to pour my insulating vermicrete slab this weekend.
All the best
Dave
