Had a BBQ yesterday . 2 jan 2013. Was a typical soft Irish day . Was sortof misty damp very wet ground day . But there was no rain . Just threatening to rain all day . It looked wet everywhere cloudy gray but surprisingly there was no rain. So I decide after lunch why not have a a early dinner BBQ. And to my surprise it stayed dry even when I was finished with the BBQ . Lamb Chops, Chicken Fillets , Boerewors on the BBQ. Then I threw french Puy lentils in my pre heated cast iron pan on the coals.Add 2 chopped up tomatoes mixed around . Then I mixed cous cous . And a full lemon squeezed into this mix in the pan. I then put the pan on top of the grate off from the direct heat from the coals and served all. The smokey flavor from the fire also went into the Cous cous lentil mix and the lemon added a zingy taste to it What a lovely treat on a day that most people would not have ventured out of the house when they saw the conditions from indoors. I had loads of fun and it was exceptionally warm for this time of the year . But if yo stood in side the house with out trying to test the temperature you would have said this is a horrible day . I went to cook a crown of goose and a turkey leg on my primo but had to do it on the swiss grill as the cokes had got really damp. leftovers today made a hunters pie with some pigs cheeks added and I minced up some pork to make a pork pie . i used duck fat instead of lard to make my hot water pastry . Not going to help much with the after christmas diet !!!!!

;)pies came out of the oven about 2 hours ago and I am afraid that I succumbed and cut in to the hunters ( mix of duck, goose ,pigs cheeks and a few chicken legs)pie unfortunately it was still warm so the jelly was not set but still scrummy!! Will take a few pictures tomorrow . I topped the hunters with some sloe jelly (but only because I run out of pastry !!)

Definately is mild today. I am hot smoking a chook with wild plum and hazel and if my new attachment works cold smoking cheese, salt , butter and paprika . Hoping it works because I used the last of my paprika last night on the kidney beans

We are in France, just finished our open day Sunday lunch. ( in blighty it's everyone brings something for the table and I cook it on the BBQ but here in France because we are on the river if we get chatting to people they just stay for lunch! Today it was only 5 people came but we have had twenty odd more and everyone is adept at budging up and fetching cutlery and dishes!! Today's meal was an empty fridge /freezer/veg rack one Parsnip, ginger and apple soup with flat breads (dripping with garlic butter.......... Pork andprune pie (the pork was out of the freezer left over from a BBQ Butter beans and leeks , kidney beans in a BBQ sauce with sausages and lardons.,puy lentils with onions cumin seeds and pots. Potatoes sarladaise, carrots cooked in ginger with butter and star anise and braised leeks. Neighbour brought the pudding it was a frangipani galette. And I got the feve! Any one can pop in on a Sunday there is always loads to eat and emergency meats and veggies frozen for extras!!!

Right!! That's it!!!.....after reading your last post (Lesley) I'm damn determined to make the pilgrimage to Chez Vous in the next couple of months. I'll probably turn up unannounced on a Sunday and you'll have to fish me out of the river with a gaff.
