Unfortunately this led to my friend Nat and I hatching an evil plan to do this bigger and better after lots of talking and lots of project creep it was decided to build a roasting pit for the 1999 eclipse.
The pit was dug out then lined with granite sets with lime mortar.
for the next few days we had a fire going in the pit
When it was all burned down to charcoal a try of veggies and several trays of chickens wrapped in foil went in.
We closed the oven door (a dirty big lump of checker-plate steel) and left it to cook.
A few hours later we opened up the oven and had lots of roast chickens with veggies on trenchers (these had all been baked in the oven a few days before)
